Their previous single Dil Khush came out a year back and it’s one the few songs to feature a drum solo on the song. Parvaaz just released their debut EP titled Behosh and the EP launch gig took place at Counter Culture recently. The band has varied influences and they’ve done a remarkable job of putting it all together on the EP. There are elements of blues, 70s Rock and Indian classical influences with the lyrics are in Kashmiri and Urdu. Their drummer Sachin Banandur who’s is one ofBangalore’s finest drummers has done a phenomenal job on album. Some of his jazz influences are seen on the album and he certainly keeps the groove tight on the EP. Here’s what he had to say in his chat with Indian Drummer.
ID – Hey Sachin! How was the recently held promotional event for the EP?
Sachin - Counterculture is a pure quality venue for artists and musicians. They’ve got a brilliant Drum Kit and Sound equipment, which makes me play comfortably at the gig.
ID – Great! How does this effort differ from the previous?
Sachin - This is our Debut EP. We had just released 1 single called “DIL KHUSH” which is added to our BEHOSH EP. This album has undergone many changes to the songs as we play each song with huge jams at live gigs. We had to cut down those few jams and make proper constructions.
ID – As we know selling original albums is pretty hard these days. So what are Parvaaz’s plans to put the band out there & make it possible to reach all followers?
Sachin - These days it’s all about buying stuff through the internet, so people can buy our CDs on FLIPKART and they can also order physical copies and digital songs too. We’ve already sold a bunch of CDs at launch gig.
ID – That sounds great!! Is Parvaaz also looking to give a few free songs to followers of the band who can’t buy the CD right now?
Sachin - Yes we gave away free CDs to some of our followers who have regularly been following our shows and updates. But right now it’s important to get back the huge money we spent on our EP. After a few months it’ll be up for FREE grab!
ID – Is there any theme related to this EP? How did this idea start?
Sachin - This EP consists of songs which we have been playing regularly at our gigs. And together they have a similar feel to it. This idea was put up by each band members and it was worked out.
ID – Tell us about your drumming on this EP. Was it hard? How did you prepare yourself for the recording and how did you go about writing all your parts?
Sachin – I’m very metronome friendly, I give a complete take for drum tracking, that way I can retain the live sound. And yes I had to play in few prominent fills and rolls which fit right in the songs. This made the songs a little different from the live act.
ID – So did you push yourself a lot on this album?
Sachin - I didn’t push myself to a huge extent. It went smooth and well and I’m happy with what I got.
ID – Congratulations! That sounds really good Sachin. Is there anything you’d like to say to all the fans out there?
Sachin - This EP is just a beginning; we’ll be back with a full fledged album with a much bigger production. Do buy our CDs on flipkart and also at our live gigs. We’re launching our EP at Blue Frog, Mumbai on the 2nd of August.
ID – Thanks a lot for your time Sachin.
Sachin – Thank you.
